Appear’s X Platform was tested to offer part of the festival’s broadcasting solutions to the largest mediatech in Latin America.

30 September 2022, Oslo, Norway — Appear, the global leader in media processing and delivery technology, today announced that the Globo Group, the largest mediatech in Latin America, has successfully tested Appear’s X Platform as part of the solution for the live video distribution of Rock in Rio 2022.

One of the biggest music festivals in the world, Rock in Rio, which took place from Friday, 2 September to Sunday, 11 September 2022, was broadcast as a multiplatform project by Globo, integrating open TV, pay channels and streaming—demanding mediatech delivery of excellence, with high quality audio, video and low latency transmission.

For this, in addition to the solutions developed internally by the Globo Group to offer a multi-screen consumer experience, Globo tested Appear’s video gateway solution during the Rock in Rio 2022 event. Appear’s X Platform was connected to two microwave links, with four HD AVC signals for each of the links. The equipment was used as a backup of the fibre links that were, in turn, connecting all the outputs of the TV centre, specially assembled for the event, delivering the signal to the broadcaster for the finalisation of the transmissions carried out by TV Globo, Multishow and BIS.

Appear’s solution exceeds the expectations of transmission and quality due to its flexibility and density and, in just one chassis, it allows several functions for the reception and distribution of signals, encoding, modulation, transcoding and delivery of ready-to-use signals for terrestrial distribution and for digital platforms”, commented Bruno Targino, Regional Sales Manager for Appear in Brazil.

Fernando Wkitor, Telecom Solution Manager of Globo, said that the company “approved of the Appear solution because it is versatile and flexible, which allowed us to have several configurations in the same box”.

 Appear’s X Platform

Appear’s X Platform is used around the world for live contribution and remote production. The X Platform offers the ability to effortlessly blend encapsulation formats such as MPEG TS, ST2022-6, ST2110, Zixi and SRT with an equally impressive array of codecs and video processing functions.  It is part of the company’s Ground-to-Cloud view that allows you to use Appear’s X Platform to send signals from the cameras and the data present at the event’s location to a cloud production platform that can be made public or private, without the need to send a mobile unit, and with the entire production team. This is achieved with a solution that provides the highest density and highest energy efficiency in the industry: only one X20 can accommodate up to 96 HEVC encoders, low latency, Full HD or up to 24 HEVC UHD encoders.
