01The Challenge

Extending a proven HD workflow into 4K

As Chile’s exclusive free-to-air rights holder for FIFA World Cup 2026, Chilevisión wanted to offer audiences a premium Ultra HD experience — one of the most demanding live production environments in the world.
The challenge was to reach 4K without rebuilding existing infrastructure: transform a live 1080i HD broadcast signal into a dedicated 4K UHD channel, bridging traditional broadcast and cloud environments without compromising on quality, resilience or latency.

Where Appear sits: two X20 units bookend the cloud — one encodes Chilevisión’s HD feed and carries it to AWS over SRT, the other decodes the enhanced 4K feed back to ground for delivery to ClaroVTR subscribers.

A hybrid ground-to-cloud deployment

At the heart of the contribution chain, Appear deployed its X20 to provide reliable, low-latency transport between ground and cloud. Chilevisión’s live 1080i HD-SDI feed was encoded in HEVC and carried over SRT into AWS, where Pixop’s AI platform performed real-time deinterlacing, restoration and super-resolution upscaling to 4K.
A second X20 then received the enhanced feed cloud-to-ground and decoded it for downstream delivery to ClaroVTR subscribers — extending a proven broadcast workflow into 4K UHD without rebuilding existing infrastructure.
