Challenges
Connecting facilities on an all-IP network infrastructure is becoming standard, but the shift from coax SDI to IP-based 2110 is a significant investment, often taking years to complete. Low latency is essential for live interactions between studio or facilities, and as video resolutions progress to 4K and 8K, bandwidth limitations on WAN networks become more challenging. Consequently, video compression is often necessary, as long as it does not introduce unacceptable delays.

Appear’s X Platform addresses WAN challenges with support for video over 2110 and SDI coax, combined with full PTP support. It enables uncompressed video and light compression with sub-frame delay, supports NMOS for orchestration, and provides 10G video firewalling with minimal delay.
