From October 19 to 27, 2024, the Swiss Indoors Basel tennis tournament showcases world-class tennis as part of the ATP Tour 500. In the lead-up to the ATP Tour Finals in Turin, today’s and tomorrow’s stars will face off in Switzerland’s most important tennis tournament and one of the world’s premier indoor events.
Thanks to Appear’s X Platform, spectators at the Swiss Indoors can follow the tennis action at high picture quality and in near real-time throughout the venue. All matches will be broadcast live through the venue’s TV system to approximately 100 TV sets in various areas, such as press offices, VIP lounges, restaurants, exhibition areas, and stands. R. Geissmann AG is responsible for setting up this system. In collaboration with Teletrend AG, a venue wide TV signal processing solution has been developed.
Appear’s modular X Platform provides the ideal solution by ensuring fast and reliable transmission—an essential requirement for sports events. Furthermore, it is characterised by high stability and user-friendly handling, making it perfect for distributing TV signals in sports arenas or auditoriums with a multitude of screens.

The technical implementation of the solution includes:
- Signal Acquisition: Audio and video signals are taken directly from the control room in HD-SDI quality.
- Encoding: The signals are encoded using low-latency H.264 encoders from Appear and converted to IP multicast. R. Geissmann AG relies on the modular X Platform, equipped with low-latency H.264 encoders and IP outputs.
