“We opted for Appear’s X Platform due to its high-capacity compact design, which optimises space within our trucks and reduces energy consumption, all while maintaining the high-level encoding performance our clients expect. Following successful tests of the X Platform during major live sports productions, we are confident in its ability to deliver high-efficiency encoding with the flexibility to deliver a sustainable, long-term investment.”

Bruce Fauser, Owner of Peak Uplink

Context

Peak Uplink selected Appear to upgrade the encoding equipment in its satellite uplink trucks for live sports contribution. As part of their fleet expansion, Peak Uplink replaced outdated equipment with Appear’s X Platform to improve satellite contribution capabilities.

Challenge

  • With increasing technical requirements from key clients like ESPN for professional and collegiate league coverage, Peak Uplink needed to remain competitive by replacing their aging AVC equipment with a high-quality HEVC encoding system, satellite modulation, and IP delivery.

Solution

  • Peak Uplink carried out extensive trials to showcase the video quality, low latency, and effectiveness of SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) over both private leased networks (PLN) and unmanaged networks to meet ESPN’s requirements.
  • Appear ensured seamless integration with third-party vendors, such as Evertz, to create a smooth and efficient end-to-end workflow.

Result

  • Successful tests earned Appear formal approval from ESPN, allowing Peak Uplink to secure Appear encoding and processing platforms for high-value sports productions.
  • Peak Uplink advocates for Appear and serves on its North American Customer Council.
